Congratulations to Gov. Ravi for hosting a very successful Foundation Dinner
Attendees: Ed, Jesse, Jay, Lynn M., Doug, Clarisse, Emma
Jesse
accepted a check for $2,500 which will support 50 Thanksgiving Baskets in
the needy area around Brookdale Hospital. He and his wife lead hospital
labs and with their staff they expect to deliver 300 baskets this year
up from 200 the prior year..which is outstanding in such a difficult
year!!
"Kids
day out" Project: our first date is Dec. 5 and final arrangements in
process. We will host 50 kids from East New York, Brooklyn at the
Museum of Aviation including a tour, Imax film , a visit to Fireman's
Museum, duffel bag , and lunch.
Second "kids day out" planned for Jan/Feb with kids from Westbury.
This
is Manny's idea, to give needy kids attention and some hope, and he
will generously fund the two trips costing about $5,000.
Thank you Manny and all those involved!!
Mike making final arrangements for Club Website. He will keep it fresh but looks forward to input from all.
Tony
D'Urso sent thank you letter for beginning a fund to build one house
for $3,500 in Nicaragua. This could be a three yr project for the Club.
Tony will stay in touch with his progress.
Lynn M reaching out to interfaith bkfst group to see if there is interest in wider community participation.
We
are proud to have our first District Rotary Peace Scholar and will ask
Gov. Ravi to invite her to our Club to speak to us about her plans. She
will earn a masters in Peace Studies at a top notch University (cost
$75,000) so should be an outstanding person of character and
accomplishment.
Jesse
will investigate further whether the District and RI can support a
refactory (mess hall) in Haiti for students to enjoy at least one good
meal a day. This came out of his efforts to locate a Gift of Life child
in Haiti.
Congratulations
to Gov. Ravi for hosting a very successful Foundation Dinner with over
150 attendees and visitors from as far away as Taiwan and Sri Lanka!!
Our Club now has a first honorary member, the UN Ambassador to Sri
Lanka!!
