Gregg
Knepper is a P&C Insurance provider...exploring joining a Rotary
Club. A world traveller, he is interested in service to community.
Speaker:
Tony D'Urso...outstanding speaker and personality. Retired Town of
North Hempstead Councilman, he has been involved with a 501c3 charity
called Bridges to Community (www.bridgestocommunity.org) the past few years.
He
focuses on Nicaragua, the 2nd poorest nation in Western Hemisphere,
where 50% live in poverty. Tony and volunteers from business,colleges,
religeous institutions and locals replace single room shack houses with
those made of concrete. Each house costs a mere $3,500. The Club may
explore how to support this project at next Bd mtg.
Clarisse notes that Gov. Ravi has provided $2,500 towards our Water Project in Haiti.
Thanksgiving
Baskets: Ed has produced a fundraising note available to mail to
friends. Contact him if u wish to receive a copy which was handed out
at last mtg. The Club maintains a bank acct dedicated to this worthy
project that serves Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn area. Final proceeds
needed by Nov.13 to secure items in the baskets.
Mike
making great progress with trial Club Website. Invites all members to
take a look and comment. So far displaying a template with some
data..funds to support project be voted on at next Bd mtg.
Kids Project: Emma in touch with school officials in Westbury.
Clarisse
in touch with So. Brooklyn (suggest we work with Brooklyn Club ?). Emma
to provide Club with dates of first outing focused on Westbury kids.
Haiti:
Haiti Club cannot provide GOL child at this time. Rotary Club of
Petion-Ville, Haiti are engaged in a project to build and run a
refectory (mass dining hall) which would feed 200 kids a day since most
of the target kids get no meals and fail in school.
The
project to build this refectory will run from 11/9/09 and be completed
6/25/10 at a cost of $17,000. Bd will discuss if we can participate.
